Reading Streak

readingFall is my favorite season to get cozy with a good book, and lately, I’ve been on a major reading streak. Meaning every book I’ve picked up has basically knocked my socks off.

Now, while there are often books that I enjoy, it’s rare that I find so many in a row that I’m *this* crazy about.

That leave me breathless when I finish, and somewhat disappointed because I think, my next read can’t possibly top that! Only to pick up the next tome from my TBR pile and find my mind equally blown.

Here are a few of my recent faves:

Frankly in Love by David Yoon–From the description of this book, I expected a sweet YA romance, and sure, there are sweet and romantic bits, but there’s also SO MUCH MORE. It’s a coming of age story about Frank Li who’s a Korean American navigating his senior year of high school. It delves into themes of family, race, first love, friendship, and all with exquisite writing and humor.

booksThe Institute by Stephen King–Honestly, I was kinda surprised at how much I loved this story since it’s about children with special powers who are held captive. But, man, I couldn’t put it down! I literally lost sleep over this book because I just had to know what happened. And the payoff was EPIC.

Gmorning, Gnight by Lin Manuel Miranda–I read this over the course of a few months, doling out a few of the witty poems during breakfast or dinner. The entire family enjoyed them, and we’ve already started rereading. Highly recommend for the optimistic witticisms as well as the accompanying illustrations!

The Flatshare–While the premise is slightly outlandish, it makes for an entertaining story. Two people with opposite schedules and desperate for money wind up sharing a flat, as in a one-bedroom flat. Their notes to each other and how their relationship slowly grows was fun and sweet, and there was enough depth to make this a very impressive rom-com.

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor–Not sure why it took me so long to finally start this YA fantasy duology, but as soon as I did, I was completely swept away. Laini Taylor has this way with language, of breathing life into her characters and world, that’s just astounding. I’m already deep into the next sequel!

I would love to keep this reading streak going, so please share any book recommendations you may have!!
