Autumnal Reads

IMG_1136As the end of summer approaches, I know there are things I’ll miss: harvesting fresh tomatoes from our garden, tucking flowers and sprigs of lavender behind Sophie’s ears (see picture), and making the most of those long days of Colorado sunshine.

But I’m also excited because fall is my favorite season. It means playing in piles of maple leaves, football (go Broncos!), all things pumpkin, and, of course, tons of new books.

And seriously, is it just me or is the caliber of upcoming new releases even more impressive than usual? Many of my favorite authors have books coming out, like, really soon.

Here are a few books I’m especially excited about:

Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas: This is the final (*sob*) book in her Throne of Glass series, and after the cliffhanger ending of Empire of Storms–which came out two whole years ago–I cannot wait to get my hands on this book. The hard part will be to read slow enough so I can savor every word. (Release: October 23)

Lethal White by Robert Galbraith: I absolutely love the Cormoran Strike Mystery series penned by J.K. Rowling. After the pivotal wedding scene in Career of Evil, you bet I’m excited to see where she takes her characters, especially the compelling Ms. (or is it Mrs. now?!) Robin Ellacott. Unsheltered by Barbara Kingsolver: The queen of book clubs, Barbara Kingoslver’s storytelling always seems to take on a magical quality with characters that just feel real and poignant themes of nature. Given this is her first book in 6 years, to say I’m excited is a bit of an understatement. (Release: October 16)

Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty: Usually Moriarty writes suburban thrillers, but I can’t wait to read her newest book which takes place at a health resort. Her ability to make me laugh out loud while simultaneously balancing at the edge of my seat is a gift I will never tire of. (Release: November 6)

Bridge of Clay by Markus Zusak: I still remember the feelings I had while reading The Book Thief–the joy, intrigue, and sadness–which is remarkable given it came out over ten years ago. As such, I’m pretty excited to check out Zusak’s first book since then. (Release October 9).

Do you enjoy fall as much as I do? What books are you looking forward to reading?
