The Happs
Do people still use the above phrase? Regardless, it’s been rather quiet on my blog lately, so I thought I’d write a little post to share what’s been going on lately…
Killer Chardonnay comes out in T-minus 3 months, which is exciting and nerve-wrecking and still very surreal. Reviews are trickling in and it’s been *amazing* to see people I’m not related to connecting with the characters and story. Now if I can just find the right ensemble for my launch party…
After months of hard work and more research than I’ve ever done for a manuscript (including the chemistry behind winemaking and even a jail tour!), I’m pleased to report that I turned in Book 2–tentatively titled A Pairing to Die For. Cue happy dance!
This means, hard as it is to believe, I’m diving into Book 3! It takes place at a Colorado ski resort over a decidedly unfortunate Valentine’s weekend. I’m hopeful this cold and snowy spring will prove to be inspiring, even as I’m craving warmer weather.
And, as always, I’ve been reading. A LOT. I’ll be moderating a panel at my first mystery conference, Left Coast Crime, called Small Town Cozies: How Not to Run Out of Victims. To prep, I’ve been reading the talented panelists’ books in hopes of crafting entertaining questions.
I’ve also been working my way through Talking to Strangers by Malcolm Gladwell, which is absolutely fascinating and has me analyzing every face-to-face interaction. I devoured Love Lettering by Kate Clayborn and Tweet Cute by Emma Lord (both super fun romcoms), and am currently engrossed in Pretty as a Picture by Elizabeth Little.
In other news, Sophie continues to amaze me. Seemingly over night she morphed from a toddler into a mature little girl. She’s silly, kind, and curious, and has a fierce streak I can’t help but admire. Last week, she suddenly started coloring inside the lines, learned how to skip, and became obsessed with glitter, the latter of of which we’ll likely be finding around the house through her high school graduation.
As for John and me, we’ve been binge-watching Schitt’s Creek and recently started a new game of Breath of the Wild (I know, I know, there are SO MANY games to play, but we can’t seem to resist this epic RPG!). Our new fave date destination is a sushi restaurant in Denver called Sushi Sasa. All their rolls are absolutely delicious, but they have this vegan roll with pumpkin tempura and strawberries I just can’t get enough of (just ask John, ha!)!
