Reflecting on 2019

For New Year’s, I always enjoy reflecting on the year. How things have changed from the start to the finish. And for me, 2019 was an unexpected transformative year.

Okay, maybe not entirely unexpected since I’ve been working toward being a published author for nearly a decade. But signing a book deal in February was surreal, and something I still have to pinch myself about to prove it’s not some elaborate Inception-like dream.

At the beginning of the year, I had a vague goal to write another manuscript. I was about a third of the way through a brand new shiny project when I signed my 3-book contract with Berkley. Since then, I’ve edited KILLER CHARDONNAY, which will be released May 26, wrote Book 2 (slated to come out March 2021), and already started thinking about Book 3.

In that time, we’ve traveled the world together, explored different hobbies and passions, and started a family.

Speaking of family, this year I’ve gotten the privilege to watch Sophie slowly morph from toddler into a little kid. She learned how to jump, race up and down stairs, draw a circle, and sing the lyrics to hit Beatles songs (Hello Goodbye is her personal favorite). Really, her accomplishments eclipse mine!

We traveled to San Diego and Boston (both fabulous family destinations!), introduced Sophie to the wonder that is sugar, and spent an inordinate amount of time at playgrounds.

A few of my favorites were: Sadie by Courtney Summers, Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens, Frankly in Love by David Yoon, The Bookish Life of Nina Hill by Abbi Waxman, The Institute by Stephen King, and Your House Will Pay by Steph Cha.

I’m not sure if 2020 can top the awesomeness of 2019, but I’m so excited to try. Bring it, 2020!

Do you reflect at the end of each year? What did you accomplish in 2019? Do you have any resolutions for 2020?
