Book and Food Pairings

I love pairing recipes with books and now that it’s autumn, tis the season for baking, crockpots, and football. Here are my top favorite book and food pairings, as well as a little wish for what my book’s will be.

scones

Pride and Prejudice Sweet Fruit Scones: Confession, I’ve been to Bath but instead of touring the Roman Baths or exploring the city, I spent my my three hours of free time at the Jane Austen museum. I learned things like who inspired Mr. Darcy (her brother) and what society life was like at that time. And I ate scones. From that moment on, scones have been synonymous with Jane Austen and my favorite Austen story: Pride and Prejudice.

stewFantasy Beef Stew with Hearty Bread: Pretty much every fantasy novel makes me crave rustic stew with Lembas-like bread. Probably because the characters are always settling into Inns after long days trekking through Middle-earth, Vintas, Alagaësia, etc. Inevitably, there’s a modest yet comfortable bed, a fire in the hearth, and delicious stew with bread for sopping. My recent fave fantasy series: The Kingkiller Chronicle.

sandwich

Mystery Sandwiches: So, what sort of food pairs with my story? My hope is sandwiches. Six chapters in and there are two meal scenes in my cozy mystery, both involving sandwiches (albeit, very different kinds). Sandwiches are one of my favorite things to make, to eat, and, I’m finding, to write about.

What are your favorite book and food pairings?

What I’m reading: The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes (Book club! Still not sure what will pair well with this one??)

What I’m listening to: Of Monsters and Men – My Head is an Animal
